Effect of Temperature on Growth as a Differentiating Characteristic between Human and Nonhuman Isolates of Basidiobolus Species.

چکیده
Since Basidiobolus ranarum (Eidam, Beitr. Biol. Pflanz. 4:181, 1886) was first reported as a cause of subcutaneous phycomycosis in human beings (Lie Kian Joe et al., Arch. Dermatol. 74:378, 1956), some question has prevailed as to the validity of the specific identification (Drechsler, Am. J. Botany 45:632, 1958). The isolates from man were reported as B. ranarum initially, even though some cultural differences were noted when compared with isolates from nature (Lie Kian Joe et al., Arch. Dermatol. 74:378, 1956; Emmons et al., Mycologia 49:1, 1957). These differences were discounted inasmuch as they were thought to fall within the range of variability. Drechsler (Am. J. Botany 45:632, 1958), however, feels that the species causing human disease differs significantly from the description of B. ranarum, which is usually saprophytic on the excrement of frogs and lizards and which is thought to pass an undetermined period of time within certain insects. One primary difference which this investigator emphasizes is the smoothness of the zygospores of the pathogen of man as opposed to the rough surface of this morphological form produced by species isolated from nature. In studying the immunological and pathological properties of B. ranarum isolated from human and nonhuman sources, a fortuitous observation led to an investigation of the temperatures at which growth occurred, the results of which are reported herein. B. ranarum RSA 334, B. meristosporus RSA 964, and B. microsporus RSA 977, all from nonhuman sources, were obtained from R. K. Benjamin. B. ranarum 6A and 6C were isolated by the authors from feces of the green chameleon found near New Orleans, La. Strains isolated from human lesions were obtained from C. W.

Differentiating agents of dermatophytosis (Trichophyton mentagrophytes and Trichophyton interdigitale) in human by dual polymerase chain reaction
Background: Dermatophytes create the most common fungal disease in humans, called dermatophytosis. The two species of Trichophyton rubrum and Trichophyton interdigital are responsible for over 80% of types of dermatophytosis. So far, several morphological and physiological methods have been used to differentiate these very similar species, but these methods are generally time-consuming and have...
متن کاملIn vitro susceptibilities of human and wild-type isolates of Basidiobolus and Conidiobolus species.
The in vitro activities of amphotericin B, miconazole, ketoconazole, 5-fluorocytosine, and potassium iodide (KI) were studied on human and wild-type isolates of Basidiobolus and Conidiobolus species. Of the antifungal agents tested, the imidazole derivatives, especially ketoconazole, were the most active against the agents of entomophthoromycosis. Transmission electron microscopy showed severe ...
متن کاملComparative antigenic studies of species of Basidiobolus and other medically important fungi.
An immunodiffusion technique was used to evaluate the antigenic relationship of various pathogenic and saprobic Basidiobolus spp., Conidiobolus spp., isolates of the order Mucorales, and several other medically important nonzygomycetous fungi. The antiserum to Basidiobolus haptosporus shared two lines of identity, designated inner (N) and outer (Y), when tested against exoantigens of known stra...
متن کاملInhibition of Trichoderma Species from Growth and Zoospore Production of Phytophthora Drechsleri and Their Effects on Hydrolytic Enzymes
Understanding the function of Trichoderma species in the control of Phytophthora drechsleri in pistachio orchards is very important. In this study, the effects of liquid extra-cellular secretions and volatile compounds secreted by 27 isolates of Trichoderma harzianum, T. crassum, T. koningii, T.aureoviride, T. asperellum, T. brevicompactum, T.longibrachiatum and T. virens were investigated on ...
متن کاملمقایسه اثر دما و تابش بر رشد قطری بلندمازو (Quercus castaneifolia C. A. Mey.) در محدوده جنگلی آستارا با استفاده از روش گاهشناسی درختی
Due to variances in response of different tree species in different habitats to climate changes, further studies in this field is clearly required. On the other hand, the lack of studies on chronology to evaluate the effect of solar radiation on radial growth of tree species due to lack of long term data of an important climatic variable, new approaches to determine the effect of this parameter...
